More tough news for the Alouettes as slotback Jamel Richardson has been lost for the remainder of the 2013 season. J-Rich suffered a torn LCL and ACL in his left knee during practice on Sunday and will require surgery. The expected recovery time for the injury is 9 to 12 months.

Despite a dip in production last season and numbers that reflect the Als’ slow start this year (197 yards in 5 games), Optimus Prime still has the most receiving yards in the CFL since joining Montreal in 2008.

*Jim Popp replaced Rust for final game of 2001 regular season

This is the Als’ 5th in-season head coaching change in franchise history and
3rd time Popp has been named the replacement: 2001-Rod Rust (fired),
2006-Don Matthews (health issues), 2013-Dan Hawkins (fired).

Also of note, this is the earliest dismissal of a CFL head coach to start a season since Greg Marshall was let go by Hamilton following an 0-4 start in 2006.

Trivia Question: When was the last time a head coach was fired during the season following a victory?
Answer: Greg Mohns in 2000. BC fired him on August 19th following a 36-26 win over the Argos 2 days earlier.
Mohns was replaced by Steve Buratto, and oddly enough, the Lions went on to win the Grey Cup that year!

Calvillo_Black_and_WhiteAls’ 20-year CFL veteran Anthony Calvillo avoided the club’s first 0-3 start at home since 1972 by leading his second 4th Quarter Comeback of the 2013 season.

AC improved his record in 4th Quarter Comeback Opportunities this season to 2-2, while Eskimos’ Mike Reilly dropped his first clutch QB decision of the campaign.

Reilly led the green & gold 74 yards downfield, but running back John White was ultimately denied on the game’s final play as the Als held on for the 32-27 victory.

Since 2011, Calvillo is tied with Kevin Glenn for the most 4th Quarter Comebacks in the CFL (5).

Week 5 Results:

Anthony Calvillo, MTL – 4QC Win + GWD vs. EDM

Mike Reilly, EDM – 4QC Loss at MTL
